About Detroit Theaters and Entertainment

(Detroit, Michigan - MI, USA)

Detroit's theater district is second in the world to New York's Broadway in terms of seat numbers. The Motor City is home to a thriving theater scene, with productions to suit all tastes shown throughout the year, ranging from opera to cutting edge contemporary drama.

The huge Fox Theater, which is on the National Historic Landmarks of Michigan list, has an upper auditorium that seats more than 5,000 people. Other famous venues include the Detroit Opera House (formerly known as the Capitol Theater), State Theater, Gem Theater, Century Club and the City Theater (formerly known as the Second City Comedy Theater).

The city's rich musical heritage is second to none and excellent live music of all styles can be found at numerous venues throughout the city. Large concerts and festivals featuring top musicians are held at venues such as Cobo Arena, Hart Plaza, Majestic Theater and St. Andrew's Hall. Live music is also performed at many bars and nightclubs in Detroit including the Attic Bar and Lager House. Many popular music venues can be found in the Hamtrack district.
